In this way, BOTH the vets can enjoy the seasonal tradition they’re so used to and all of us MMO players (this game has attracted), can enjoy having that infinite progression. I think that’s what will fix the dilemma of not the devs not knowing what this game needs to be. Since this game is already advertised as a hybrid of an mmo and an arpg, I think it should be further reinforced rather than having to pick one side at the expense of the other. Quantity≠qualityĪn idea on how to make the game replayable within a season: add a separate leveling mechanic or infinite form of progression that persists across seasons in spite of having to make a new character each time. For the game to truly be fun, it must be so IN SPITE OF having experienced all classes, IN SPITE OF completing the new seasonal content, IN SPITE OF introducing more things ‘to do’. Just having more things to do than before or (those things being new), doesn’t make a game intrinsically fun-it only stalls the inevitable lack of endgame. But putting the entire game DOWN (like many have done) after finishing the new seasonal content only to come back the next season and do the same? That tells me the game itself is not intrinsically fun. Just because I enjoy MMOs doesn’t mean I don’t deserve for this game to be replayable when all seasonal content has been completed. Even if the first two issues were fixed and all classes have been experienced, you would still face the inevitable: no endgame. For the hardcore players who have all the time in the world on their hands who would be the first to finish experiencing the entirety of the ‘new seasonal content’, the game would need to have very good replayability so that they can have an incentive to keep playing the season. Suppose we don’t have to farm renown again and the ‘new seasonal content’ being added is bonkers. Simply having to experience a new class in order to have replayability is flat out stupid and it’s again (like the farming renown and new seasonal content dilemma), overcompensating. Perhaps I like the barbarian, I don’t care for experiencing the other classes. Seasonal content alone does not count because as an MMO lover, I want the season itself to be replayable! If I can’t hold onto my eternal character to participate in new the new content, then AT LEAST make the game highly replay-able WITHOUT having to experience a new class. If we actually had enough innovative seasonal content, retention wouldn’t be as big of a problem! Why would I want to play a season for some tiny little ‘twist’ AND have to farm renown all over again for it? But not at the expense of introducing enough new seasonal content. If we are to have these malignant hearts, fine. Not only is this not innovative, it’s also very trivial. All they are is a more powerful version of slottable skulls and the tunnels are just re-skins. If you color a piece of trash with a different color, you STILL have the same piece of trash. Just because something is new or fresh, doesn’t mean it’s actually new or fresh. This is a terrible way of going on about retaining players because it’s done to overcompensate for trivial ‘new seasonal content’. I WANT to experience the new seasonal content, but how can I when it’s locked behind some boring, monotonous task which I’ve already done? The fact that we can skip the campaign and the map as well as the altars transferring over, tells me that withholding other things such as renown is intentional in order to retain players during a season. This is actually something even the vets hate and think is stupid. However, I can’t even enjoy this ‘season’ concept I want to enjoy for three reasons which are actually things even vets complain about.įarming renown. I can definitely see myself starting fresh each season since it would be a novelty for me. I have actually come to terms with the idea of seasons and understand it’s traditional for ARPGs and many Diablo vets here prefer them. Anyways, this isn’t your usual “Seasons are stupid, I don’t want to have to make a new character post”. I haven’t made it to tier 3, done a single helltide, or nightmare dungeon though so all those things are still foreign to me. I’ve cleared the campaign, discovered the entire map, and all altars. Played mostly MMOs since they’re my favorite genre ranging from RuneScape, ESO, and WoW.
